Self-Reflection - creating this Project
Designing this project has allowed me to further my own understanding of linear relationships and where they exist in the real world. Before working on this project I had been taught through the same several genres when I was a student. Since I had never been introduced to different genres as a student, nor during my short teaching career, I couldn't even fathom using so many, let alone on one topic. But the benefits have emerged quite quickly on how nicely this type of project can work to improve student achievement in a diverse classroom.
We have discussed the benefits for me as the teachers, but now we will discuss the benefits I have noticed for my students. Using multiple genres to teach students a topic relates directly to differentiated learning. Every student learns best in a certain way and unfortunately, for the teachers, a classroom in the U.S. is filled with students of all backgrounds and cultures and thus our teaching must vary as well. This variation can be more accurately satisfied using many different genres, meaning a students preferred genre is more likely to be used and their engagement in learning and achievement to increase.
