Common + Unity = Community
During Teacher Assisting
A teacher that works and learns only within his/her own classroom is missing out on a lot of support that is available. There are so many resources that are easy to find in our technological era and we would be unwise to use them. Luckily, many teachers are using social media and online resources to unite and share thoughts on our common profession. As teachers, I am a strong advocate for sharing ideas, teaching strategies, and forming support networks to constantly improve our teaching community and to professionalize teaching.
As shown to the left I have been a part of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics since January 2012. As a member I gain access to many articles and publications of teachers works and strategies throughout the entire U.S. This allows me to gain expertise of the best way to guide our common practice of teaching and unity through professional conversation with colleagues near and far. This membership is also evidence that I have taken responsibility outside the classroom to enhance my knowledge of mathematics learning. Below are pictures of my work with the Math-Team-Matics Competition that was held at GVSU on Dec. 7th, 2013. I was one of two co-founding GVSU students to organize this math competition for local high school and middle school students. It brings students to the center of learning and allows students to extend learning outside their classroom and to enhance the culture of GVSU and hopefully at each of the 16 schools that attended as well as the culture at each students household.
